We are excited to have secured substantial funding from StreetGames to be part of their latest evaluation project.
StreetGames, a youth sports charity, has partnered with the Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) on a “Towards Sport” program to evaluate the impact of sports-based interventions on preventing youth offending.ย This program involves a multi-site trial across 50 youth organizations, including 5 On It, engaging over 3,000 young people aged 10-17, to assess the effectiveness of smaller grassroots groups in preventing offending.ย The evaluation aims to determine how sports-based activities can positively impact young people at risk of or already involved in youth crime.ย
Key aspects of the StreetGames and YEF “Towards Sport” program:
- Multi-site trial:This approach allows for evaluation of smaller grassroots organizations, which are often not feasible for traditional large-scale efficacy studies.ย
- Targeted interventions:The program focuses on young people aged 10-17 who may be at risk of entering the criminal justice system or being victims of crime.ย
- Community-based approach:StreetGames works with local organizations to deliver sports-based activities that meet the needs of young people in underserved communities.ย
- Evidence-based approach:The program is informed by research and literature reviews that highlight the effectiveness of sports in preventing youth crime and anti-social behavior.ย
- Broader impact:The program aims to improve the well-being and life chances of young people, contributing to healthier, safer, and more successful communities.ย
